I had a half hour date with Shoppers Drug Mart tonight (while a girlfriend watched the kids) and came home with smeared lipstick on my lips, minty breath and a gift wrapped box …. tisk tisk … what must the neighbours be thinking?!
My plan of attack (see article “7 Steps Towards my own Personal Bliss!”) worked out fairly well except that there were no Cadbury chocolate bars on the shelves – the 2/$4 price plus 8,000 Bonus Points when you buy 4 have resulted in a rush on Cadbury – so I chose eight 3 packs of Trident & Stride gum instead. At $3.49 each, they weren’t quite as sweet a deal for the 16,000 points I earned, but they’ll be handy for our family and for loot bags throughout the year (they expire in the summer of 2013 so we should have no problem getting full use of them).
And as for the BOGO lipstick – what fun!
- 8 Maybeline New York Superstay at $9.49 sale price (reg $11.99) for $4.74 each out of pocket (oop)
- 4 L’Oreal Paris Infallible at $13.49 (reg price … eek … i NEVER pay full price at SDM for ANYTHING!) for $6.74 each oop
- 2 Cover Girl Outlast at $11.69 sale price (reg $12.99) for $5.85 each oop
The lipsticks added up to just over $75 to earn me the great little red Beauty Bonus Box full of samples and coupons. These are available until Septemer 14th while supplies last, click here for details. The gum (and a bag of milk) took me up over the $100 threshold that I needed to redeem my 18,500 Bonus Points coupon that arrived in the mail today (I still have one more to use, too!), and I got another PIN code to win a Volt. To receive coupons like the one I used tonight, be sure to register on the Shoppers Drug Mart website. These offers are sent out on a very regular basis, in fact, the previous one expired on Sept 10th and the next one arrived just 2 days later.
I purchased a $125 Gift Card on the way into the store and confirmed first hand (for the first time) that we can pay for the full purchase including taxes with SDM gift Cards. So when you’re spending a minimum amount for a perk, be sure to calculate how much tax you’ll have and buy gift cards enough to cover the taxes, too!
Those will be worth about $96 towards the X-Box that we’re buying [for Christmas]
By paying for “my date” tonight with the $125 gift card, spending $75 on costmetics, redeeming 7 BOGO FREE lipstick coupons, choosing products that have Bonus Points, and topping up to $100 to be able to redeem the 18.5K coupon, I spent $122.41 (with taxes), saved $103.23 on sale prices, and earned 36,830 Optimum Points. Those will be worth about $96 towards the X-Box that we’re buying as our family Christmas present during the anticipated December Mega Spend Your Points event.
Oh, and I paid my friend who watched the kids with a fresh new lipstick! All in all, even without any chocolate, it was a perfect date!!!
