Price-matching is becoming more and more mainstream and certainly the foundation of any savvy shopper’s strategy:
- always start with the lowest possible price
- add more layers of savings with Canadian coupons, store perks, mail-in-rebates, mobile cash back rebates, loyalty rewards, etc.
Mobile apps to view store flyers on your smartphone or mobile device are making the whole price-matching process so much easier in terms of slick research ahead of time and NOT having to lug around our paper flyers while shopping! Furthermore, these mobile flyer apps make it possible to keep saving even when you’re shopping away from home and don’t have flyers for that particular city. Note: not all stores will allow us to “flash the app at the cash” instead of producing the paper flyer so be sure to check your store policy first.
Here are my top 5 FREE mobile flyer apps:
- Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad)
The pioneer and most widely available of the major mobile flyer apps, Reebee’s strength is that it caches the flyers that you’ve viewed while on line and you don’t have to have an internet connection if you’re using the app to price-match in a store. Simply allow the app to open the first page of a flyer while you’re online, and then open the Reebee app and click on the flyer to view all pages of that flyer, even without an internet connection. Another highlight of the Reebee mobile flyer app is that you can easily change between cities (without having a postal code). One minor inconvenience is having to tap the screen once to display the flyer dates on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Click here for more details about the Reebee mobile flyer app.
- available on iPhone and iPad
- NOW AVAILABLE on Android! (released February 19, 2014)
My favourite part of the Flipp flyer app is the clipping feature. It organizes my shopping list on one screen and then when I’m ready to price-match at the cash, I simply touch each item and it automatically goes to the flyer item, zoomed, with the flyer date showing clearly at the top of the screen. Similar to Reebee, the Flipp mobile flyer app caches any flyers which you have previously opened so you can easily view them offline. A nice addition to this app would be the option to search by city instead of needing to have a postal code handy. Click here to learn more about how to download Flipp to your iOIS or Android devices.

An nice feature of the new Save.ca flyer app is that in addition to the weekly flyers, it also has the seasonal catalogues and a handy filter so you can refine your view according to your favourite stores. The Save.ca app requires and internet connection at all times – it doesn’t seem to cache the images you’ve previously viewed and it also requires a postal code to change cities so be sure to have a few saved on your mobile device if you frequently shop out of town. Flyerify looks dramatically different than the other mobile flyer apps because it lists stores in alphabetical order with a thumbnail store logo instead of the traditional “front page of the flyer”. The “All Stores” setting lists all available store flyers and is ideal for those who can price match any Canadian flyer. It’s easy to create a favourites list with your local stores and we like that they display in the order that they’ve been added (most recent at top) for a truly customized experience. Flyerify requires an internet connection to open so is not an option for those wanting to price-match on the fly unless they have a data package or open Wifi access on their mobile device. Click here to visit the Flyerify website to view the current flyers or download their mobile flyer app to your Android or Apple device.
- Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad)
One unique feature of the FlyerFlo mobile flyer app is that it has an integrated facebook sign-in so you can save your clippings. The clipping tool is a little different than the itemized Flipp clipper – you can select multiple items if they’re pictured closely on the flyer page. The flyers are arranged a little differently on this app and we found it a bit cumbersome to scroll through to the find the ones we wanted; especially the ones that run for more than 1 week in duration. Unlike Reebee and Flipp, FlyerFlo does not cache previously opened flyers and is dependent on internet connection. Visit the FlyerFlo website for more details about their mobile flyer app for viewing your store flyers.
And The Winner Is ….
Each of the mobile flyer apps have their own strengths and weaknesses. For me, the clipping feature of Flipp and the fact that I don’t need to have an internet connection in order to “flash at the cash” when I’m price-matching means that it’s my current go-to app. For a more visual appealing app to browse through the flyers with a coffee in hand, Reebee really looks the nicest!
