To date, I have never gotten onto the AIR MILES train, or would that be plane?! I get my 5 points here and there for on a bottle of wine, or at the grocery store. Last winter my husband and I collected a few hundred bonus AIR MILES reward miles with the Shell gasoline cards and we will try our best to collect more in the next few months now that the new cards have arrived. Beyond that, I don’t tend to go out of my way to shop at stores that have the AIR MILES program, nor have I ever considered getting a credit card which earns extra AIR MILES. Until today!
We received an advertisement for a BMO credit card which comes with 1,000 BONUS AIR MILES reward miles when we use it for our first purchase, and another 250 BONUS miles when we charge $1,000 or more for the first 4 months. That’s 2,000 BONUS AIR MILES. That seems like a good offer, but it comes with a catch.
This card is not free. It has a $99/yr fee. I’ve never paid for a credit card in my life. But considering that the signing bonus is worth two FREE round trip flights within province, I can’t help but wonder if it’s a good deal?
The card also boasts features like:
- 1 reward mile for every $15 spent (that would add up to about 200 BONUS miles per month in our household)
- Fill-ups at Shell earn 1.25x reward miles
- earn TWICE at sponsors by using Collector Card + this BMO credit card
- pay 25% less on short-haul flights
I know nothing about AIR MILES and am hoping the Canadian Coupons community can come to my aid! Do you collect? Do you have a credit card that works out to a better deal? Drop a line in the comments below or join the discussion over on the Canadian Coupons facebook page.
