Canadian Coupons blogger Christa Clips give you step-by-step instructions for peeling the labels so you don’t ruin your coupons!

Remember our post at this time last year “What’s in that Apple Juice Cans, Anyways?!” – it was one of my very first blog posts about specially marked packaging and how we can save a lot of money on groceries by stocking up on carefully chosen cans of apple juice!

Well they’re back! Now, inside specially marked cans of Allen’s Apple Juice, you’ll find $4 in Canadian Coupons to SAVE on other juice products. These coupons expire on December 31, 2014.  YES, 2014!

  • $1 OFF Oasis NutriSource Juice (any flavour)1.36 L
  • $1 OFF Allen’s Juice (any flavour) 1.8L
  • $1 OFF Rougemont Apple Juice (any flavour) 2L
  • $1 OFF Oasis Smoothie or Health Break 1.75 L Refrigerated (any flavour) 1.89 L (did anyone else spot the typo on this coupon?  oops!)

Tip: Calculate how much juice your family can consume by the end of next year, and stock up now while the specially marked cans are still available!  Don’t forget to include each 1L can of apple juice plus the other juice products into your consumption calculations! (I share my stockpile number at the bottom of this post)

Tip: Check the ink stamp on the top of each can to choose the ones with the longest expiry dates.  Allen’s cans are coded P-yyyymmdd – all of my cans are dated to expire 2105-03-27 and when I spoke with a representative from Lassonde this morning, she informed me that that is the freshness guarantee expiry date.  After the noted expiry date, the product will gradually begin to lose its freshness, taste and colour.  The juice is still SAFE for consumption up to 370 days after the freshness expiry date indicated on the can.  Good to know!

Now, how do you get these coupons off without ruining them?!

  1. Christa Clips tip: Slicing along the inner seam is easier than the outer edge.

Christa Clips tip: Slicing along the inner seam is easier than the outer edge.

Look for the seam/edge where the label has been glued onto itself

  2. Use your fingers to locate the inner seam (about 1/2″ to the left of the outer seam)
  3. Use your least favourite scissors or knife to pierce and drag along the inner seam. You can cut along the outer seam if you can’t find the inner one, but you’ll be working through two layers of paper plus a glob of glue so it’s a bit harder.
  4. Roll the can to your right and the coupons should come off, unharmed!
If sliced properly, you can peel your can without damaging any of the coupons on the label. No ripping!

Allen’s apple juice cans are on sale for $1 this week at my local Your Independent Grocer (part of the Loblaws family of stores). There are 62 weeks before these coupons expire. Our family will drink 1 can of apple juice and 2 cartons of Oasis Health Break per week before the coupons expire in December, 2014.  I will be buying 62 cans of Apple Juice this week.  Sound nuts? The way I see it, the apple juice is not likely to go lower than that sale price.  Plus, Oasis Health Break is our favourite juice and goes on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for 2 for $5 on a regular basis. When I use 2 of these $1 OFF coupons from the inside of the apple juice can, I’ll be paying just $1.50 each.   If you’ve been following my love affair with Shoppers Drug Mart in my blog posts, you’ll know that I’ll get at LEAST another $.75 back on each in Optimum Points using some of my tips & tricks.  I have purchased 12 cans so far – that’s my limit for pushing a heavy cart plus I don’t want to clear any shelves on any of my visits – that would prevent others from getting their coupons, too.  Have you met Susy Shelf Clearer?!

I will save $403 on our juice budget by the end of next year thanks to these coupons!

Our weekly juice costs will drop to $2.50 instead of $6 based on sale prices, or $9 if I were to pay full price. (Oh, I shudder at the thought that I used to do that!).  That’s 73% savings each week on juice to the tune of $403 by December 31, 2014.  Is it worth it for me to find a spot to stack the (unlabelled!) apple juice cans in the basement storage room?  You bet.

These savings alone make it worth it for me to stock up on these specially marked apple juice cans with coupons inside. Any other savings from the other 3 coupons are just gravy on top.  Plus, I’ll be able to trade away some of the other coupons for the brands/sizes that we don’t buy as often in our family.

How many of these specially marked Allen’s Apple Juice cans will you be buying?  And where is your favourite stockpile spot?! Drop a line in the comments below or join the conversation over on the Canadian Coupons facebook page … that’s where you’ll find me hanging out after I’ve stacked my apple juice cans – bring your own cup!

Happy Couponing!
